Still Life
Painting a beautiful still life offers me time to really observe my setup, because a stationary arrangement of objects with consistent light offers more time to capture the subject. Live flowers and fruit do eventually die and landscapes change from minute to minute, so there are challenges for each kind of painting. Setting up a still life before painting offers the challenge of orchestrating the elements of design, color, lights and darks, and interesting shapes. If your subject is not interesting you will not have an interesting painting.
